The Trailer

A night train on the quarantine line. Control gives the order over the radio: identify the passengers behaving abnormally and put them off the train. You are the dining car crew — one oven, four burners, and a carriage full of people getting impatient. The only way to find them is to serve food, because to pass for human one of them has to order something they cannot eat.

But every clue has an innocent explanation. No salt — blood pressure. Refuses the garlic — an allergy. Wants the meat raw — a taste for tartare. So before you put the man at table four off a moving train, you have to convince your friends. Meanwhile the orders are backing up, someone has set the galley on fire, and someone else is holding the wrong man. It is a long night.

What it is

Dinner is the test

Anyone who has to pass for human has to order. Steak comes with garlic. Fish comes with lemon. Chicken comes with onion. The ham sandwich tests nothing at all — that one is your control group.

Every clue has an innocent explanation

Pushed the onion aside? Could be an allergy. Wants the meat raw? Could be a taste for tartare. One clue is never enough. You need two that point the same way — which means someone has to go and find the second.

Six ways to read one passenger

The order. The plate that came back. Where the ticket was punched. What they left behind in the toilet. The luggage, the coat, the unslept bunk. And the night window, where some of them cast no reflection at all.

You drive the train

The cab is not scenery: throttle, brake, radio, route map. Speed decides when the train can stop, and the outer door only opens once it is slow. Whoever is up front is part of every decision made back in the corridor — and they are the one who hears Control.

No interface. No pings.

No shared inventory, no marking, no panel telling you who is in their seat. Just proximity voice chat. If you have something to tell someone you walk, you shout, or you blow the whistle — and half the carriage hears you do it.

Zero is always on the table

Nought, one or two infected passengers per run. Seven stops, and it never gets light. Throw the wrong one off a moving train and they are gone — and the one you were looking for is still aboard.
